Description

A three-layer holiday bar — a dense chocolate brownie base, spread with a green peppermint cream cheese filling, refrigerated until firm, then coated in a thin melted chocolate icing. Chilled, brought to room temperature, and cut into bars. A classic Christmas candy-bar style treat.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line an 8-inch square pan with foil, overlapping edges. Grease foil.
  2. Melt ½ cup margarine and 2 squares chocolate together. Add eggs, sugar, flour, and nuts. Spread in pan.
  3. Bake 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.
  4. Beat together powdered sugar, margarine, milk, peppermint extract, and food coloring. Spread over cooled brownies. Refrigerate until firm.
  5. Melt 1½ squares chocolate with 1½ Tbsp. margarine. Spread over mint layer. Chill.
  6. Remove from refrigerator and bring to room temperature before cutting into bars.
