Description

Tender, golden scones studded with maraschino cherries and pistachio nuts, brushed with egg white and finished with coarse sugar. A festive holiday bake that is simple to make and impressive every time.

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  3. 3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. 4. Stir in chopped cherries and pistachio nuts.
  5. 5. Combine milk and egg yolk. Add to flour mixture and stir until just moistened.
  6. 6. Knead dough gently several times. Divide in half and pat each half into a 6-inch round on the cookie sheet.
  7. 7. Score each circle into 6 wedges but do not separate.
  8. 8. Beat egg white lightly. Brush each round with egg white and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  9. 9. Bake for 17–22 minutes until golden brown. Separate into wedges and serve warm.
